The Descript Alternative
Descript is an excellent transcription-based editor for podcasts and long video, with a free tier that watermarks its 720p exports. It is not built to scan a long video and rank the best moments for you. Shortzly finds and scores the strongest moments, exports with no watermark, and also generates faceless videos from a topic.

Why people look for a Descript alternative
The free tier watermarks exports
Descript's free plan exports at 720p with a watermark; removing it needs the Hobbyist plan or higher. Shortzly's trial and both paid plans export with no watermark.
Metered by media hours and AI credits
Descript meters uploaded media hours and AI credits per month (10 hours and 400 credits on Hobbyist). Shortzly meters finished clips, which is the number you publish.
An editor, not a highlight finder
Descript is built for editing a whole project by editing its transcript. It has a Create Clips feature, but it does not analyze a long video and return ranked, scored highlights the way Shortzly does.
No topic-to-publish Autopilot
Shortzly Pro can invent a topic, make the video, and publish it on a schedule. Descript has no equivalent automated loop.

Where Descript is the better choice
- Descript is a far more complete editor: edit video by editing the transcript, record screen and audio, remove filler words, Studio Sound, overdub, and full podcast production. If you are editing whole episodes rather than cutting highlights, Descript is purpose-built for it.
- It exports up to 4K on Creator and above, where Shortzly tops out at 1080p.
- Billed yearly, Hobbyist is $16 a month and Creator $24 a month, so a full editor with generous AI credits is close to Shortzly Starter in price if you commit for a year.
- Its AI voices, avatars, and video translation into 30+ languages go well beyond Shortzly's six caption-translation languages.
