Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 4, 2026

1. Introduction

Shortzly ("we", "our", "us") operates the Shortzly platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored securely hashed). If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe — we do not store your full credit card details.

Content You Provide

We process the video URLs you submit (from YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, or direct links) and any files you upload. Video content is temporarily stored for processing and the resulting clips are stored in your account.

Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with our service, including pages visited, features used, clip counts, and storage usage for quota tracking.

3. Third-Party Services

Our service integrates with the following third-party services:

  • YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch APIs — to download and process video content you provide
  • OpenAI / Whisper — for AI-powered highlight detection and speech-to-text transcription
  • Stripe — for payment processing and subscription management
  • Pexels and Pixabay — for stock footage used in B-roll features
  • Social platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn) — for publishing clips via OAuth2 when you connect your accounts
  • Google Analytics and Hotjar — to measure how our website and dashboard are used, so we can find and fix usability problems

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing data they process.

4. Cookies and Analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. Your theme preference is kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie.

We also use two analytics services across our website and dashboard, each of which sets its own cookies:

  • Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) — aggregate traffic statistics, such as which pages are visited and where visitors arrive from.
  • Hotjar (_hjSessionUser_*, _hjSession_*) — session replay, heatmaps and occasional on-page surveys, which record how a page is scrolled and clicked so we can see where people get stuck.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell your data. You can block these cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Hotjar entirely using Hotjar’s do-not-track page. Shortzly works the same either way.

5. Data Retention

Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. Video clips and processed content are stored according to your subscription plan's storage limits. When you delete a clip or your account, the associated files are removed from our storage within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encrypted storage for OAuth tokens, HMAC-signed worker communications, and secure password hashing.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data and account
  • Export your clips and data
  • Disconnect linked social media accounts at any time

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
